Black Cardboard is a premium, specialty paperboard characterized by its deep, uniform black color. Unlike standard white paper that is printed black, Black Cardboard is mass-dyed (vat-dyed), meaning the color pigments are mixed directly into the pulp during the manufacturing process. This ensures that the paper is black throughout its entire structure, including the core (center).

It is categorized into three primary grades based on raw material composition:

All-Wood Pulp Black Card (Virgin): The highest quality; smooth surface, deep black color, high stiffness, and chemically neutral.
Recycled Black Card (C1S/C2S): Made from recycled fibers. It may have a slightly rougher texture or a lighter "charcoal" shade compared to virgin pulp.
Black Surface / Grey Back: An economic grade used for laminating, where only one side needs to be black.

Solid Core Coloration: The most critical functional feature. When the board is cut, die-cut, or folded, the edges remain black (no unsightly white edges appear). This eliminates the need for edge-inking.
High Stiffness & Tensile Strength: Premium black card is engineered to be rigid and durable, making it an excellent structural material for tags, boxes, and folders.
Surface Finish: Typically produced with a Matte or Eggshell finish. It is rarely glossy by default but is chemically sized to accept UV varnishing or lamination.
Processing Versatility: It is specifically formulated to withstand high-stress finishing processes such as Hot Foil Stamping, Embossing/Debossing, and Screen Printing (metallic inks) without surface cracking.
