Newsprint Paper is a low-cost, non-archival paper made primarily from mechanical wood pulp (groundwood) or recycled fibers. Unlike Offset or Art paper, it retains the lignin from the wood, which gives it a slight creamy/greyish tint and causes it to yellow/brittle upon exposure to sunlight. It is designed for short-lifespan publications where cost and speed of production are the primary concerns.

High Absorbency:

 The porous structure absorbs ink instantly. This is critical for "Coldset Web Offset" printing (used for newspapers) where there is no heat dryer; the ink must dry by absorption alone.

High Opacity:

 Despite being very thin and light, it is opaque enough to prevent text from the other side from showing through, ensuring readability.

Soft Texture:

It has a bulky, soft feel compared to the crispness of chemical pulp papers (like Offset paper).

Mechanical Pulp Composition:

It relies on shorter fibers mechanically ground from wood, providing bulk but lower tensile strength than chemical pulp papers.
